MCW Championship Wrestling September To Remember
Saturday September 17, 2011

Greetings, one and all -- once again, it is I, your spiritual leader and guiding light, The Reverend Rogue Six, and this is your "September To Remember" wrap-up!

The mood in the Wrestleplex Saturday night seemed a little more electric then usual. From the volume of the "MCW" chants, I wasn't sure if I was still in the 'Plex or had been shot back in time a decade or so and was in a certain bingo hall in Philadelphia, PA. Maybe it had something to do with a certain special guest -- a man with the nickname "The Innovator of Violence"...

The night started off with Justin Diaz coming to the ring and calling out none other then the MCW Heavyweight Champion Jebediah for the title match that he was due. Jebediah was more then willing to accommodate Diaz, and the two went at each other full-tilt, neither one giving any quarter. Momentum swung back and forth between them both; it would come down to the question of who would make that one critical error. In the end, it would be a mis-timed Diaz double-knee strike that would give the champion the opening he needed for his roaring elbow strike to score the winning pinfall and retain the title. Just after Jebediah had left the ring, the MCW Tag Team Champions -- the Broski Express -- decided to grace the crowd with their presence (sign in the crowd: BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN 2 - SAVE A HORSE, RIDE A BROSKI). It seemed that they had a bit of business with Diaz: an offer of membership in the Broski Express. As the crowd started a "SHUT THE F--K UP" chant, Diaz gave the duo his non-verbal response -- a simple one-finger salute with both hands (gee, I guess that was a "no"). This got him a quick beating from the Express, who then turned their attentions to their "babies" hanging over the ring -- the MCW Tag Team belts -- telling then not to worry, they wouldn't let them go anywhere (okay, now that was weird).

Ethan Wright faced off with Murder Inc.'s Mike Hercum (sign in the crowd: MCW RIOT ZONE - GETTING MIKE HERCUM OVER SINCE 2009) in the next match. No sooner did Murder Inc. get to the ring did the classic "SHE'S GOT HERPES" chant start. Mike seemed to think he had an easy target at first, but Ethan gave him all he could handle throughout the match, even managing to reverse a Hercum sharpshooter into a small package and later on, catching Hercum with a Mic Check. But in the end, with an assist from Big Hurt, Hercum nailed a release superplex and wrapped Ethan up in a second sharpshooter for the submission win.

It seemed Team Be Jealous was suffering from a scheduling SNAFU this night; Allyson Kay was slated to face Angel Dust in a singles match, but didn't show up -- which didn't do any wonders for Jessicka's mood. This didn't seem to faze Angel Dust one bit; she was more then happy to kick Jessicka's ass -- and with that, we had a match! I have a ton of respect for Angel Dust, because no matter what Havok hit her with, be it kicks, strikes, submission holds, or even a clothesline that looked like she hit Angel with a bat, Angel would just keep coming. When Jessicka managed to get Angel's arms pinned and positioned her for Dick Jeremy to hit, Angel dropped out of the hold -- and Jessicka took the shot instead (much to Dick's shock). This mis-cue seemed to throw her concentration off; when she had Angel set for a Death Valley Driver, Angel broke free after a series of knee strikes to the head, slid down and rolled Jessicka up for the 3-count! After the match, Jessicka dressed Dick down for the screw-up and slapped the wig off his head. Seeing this, I can't help but wonder if his days with TBJ may be numbered. . .

Murder Inc was back out to the ring, this time with Christian Vaughn in front. Just as they entered the ring, out came Justin Mane & Sarah Danielle. There came a message from MCW Commissioner GQ Status that since tonight was a special night given the level of hatred between Mane and Vaughn, their match was going to be a -- and a burst of static cut him off. Out from the curtain came the Commish himself! His edict: in order that Mane and Vaughn could settle things once and for all, their match would be a 2-out-of-3-falls match! But GQ wasn't done, oh no -- he needed to address "all the BS" he'd seen Murder Inc. pulling; since Minka was a manager, she was permitted to stay for the match. But as for Hercum and Martel -- they were outta there! And outta there they went, to a hearty chorus of "Na na na, hey hey, goodbye!"

Justin Mane would take the first fall following a Pele kick to Vaughn's head, but would go to the proverbial well once too often with that move; Christian avoided a third kick and connected with a clothesline that gave him the second fall within moments. By this point of the match, both men looked as if they were running on fumes, standing toe to toe trading blows and chops. When Vaughn accidentally knocked the ref out of the ring, Mane connected with another Pele kick and covered Vaughn -- but there was no ref to make the count. In came Big Hurt, who planted Mane into the canvas, and then in came Minka. This brought Sarah in as well, who stalked Minka for several seconds and then nailed her with a spear -- and folks, we had us a good ol' catfight! Vaughn got to his feet and grabbed Sarah for a moment -- only to let her go and get out of the ring as he turned his wrath onto Minka, shouting "I don't need you -- stay out of my business, you worthless bitch!" As if to add a period to the sentence, he picked up Justin, delivered a swift modified DDT, and got the winning pinfall. The crowd came to their feet and gave both men a standing ovation. Vaughn needed this match to prove he was his own man, but yet, this was another tainted win.

GQ Status appeared on the screen once more, addressing another situation: Wilbur Whitlock's recent attack on MCW Elite Champion Luscious Larry Lavender. Since Wilbur was using weapons, he would be suspended for this night, which in turn cost him his Elite title shot. GQ went on to explain that he even offered Larry the night off so that he could recover from the injury to his throat. To his credit as a champion, Larry refused the offer and said he'd defend the title against anyone. His new opponent would be Patrick Hayes (sign in the crowd: DIRTY GINGER WINS DON'T COUNT), who I couldn't help but notice that he bears a striking resemblance to Mick Hucknall, the lead singer of the band Simply Red. Hayes seemed to have Larry somewhat well-scouted, centering many attacks on Larry 's throat. Larry stood up to many of Hayes' attacks, but I think he may have under-estimated his opponent; this would cost him in the end, as Hayes set him up for a DVD/double-knee strike -- and scored the upset win of the night, becoming the new MCW Elite Champion!

[Before I go on, let me say this: when it comes to writing my reviews of shows, I take every measure I can to be as unbiased as I can. I've always prided myself on calling 'em as I see 'em. But when the next match features ECW mainstay Tommy Dreamer, and I'm an old ECW fan from way back, well, the bias filter's going out the freaking window. It's not too often that the Rev gets to indulge his inner fan, and on this night, I let him run rampant. So reader, you've been warned.]

The special guest of the night -- "The Innovator of Violence", Tommy Dreamer -- came out to the ring to a hero's welcome. He took the mic and spoke of how he knew there were "some sick, hardcore freaks in MCW" (yeah, and I'm one of 'em -- I say that with no shame), then asked if we wanted to see "the old school Tommy Dreamer", "the hardcore Tommy Dreamer", "the Extreme Tommy Dreamer". . . and as the crowd roared in response, he said "Then what do you say we make this a Falls Count Anywhere/Anything Goes/Extreme Rules match?" Oh, and it wasn't even my birthday! On the other side of the ring, "Superstar" Bill Martel had the look of someone whose grave just got walked on. The bell rang, and Dreamer began to show young Martel, who swore that he'd "break Dreamer in half", just how he earned the nickname "The Innovator of Violence" by using such things as a water bottle, a full trashcan, the ringbell (applied to Martel's groin and rang twice -- OUCH!), and the traditional ECW standby -- the steel chair -- in creative ways. Martel tried to match Dreamer's violence, scoring with a hotshot on the ropes and trying a top rope dive with the chair (and failing, meeting Dreamer's boot in mid-flight). This allowed Tommy to set Martel up in the Tree of Woe and set the chair in front of his face. In the opposite corner, Dreamer got ready to charge, chants of "ECW" resounding around the 'Plex; he stopped the chant and pointed to the shirt he wore -- changing the chant to "MCW!" -- then hit a baseball slide right into the chair! (Lord, there's a headache Tylenol won't help) Tommy picked up Bill and hit a DDT, but as he rolled Martel up, Minka decided that she wanted to play and got Martel's boot on the rope. (BIG mistake there, Minka.) Tommy simply grabbed her by the hair, got her in the ring, and delivered a swift one-handed piledriver (holding his nose with the other hand as he did so; use your imagination as to why). He then finished off Martel with a Spicolli Driver and scored the pinfall. Did I mark out at this? YOU BETTER BELIEVE IT! The celebration would be short-lived as Murder Inc. hit the ring for a post-match beating -- that was, until another hardcore icon hit the ring: Brain Damage! After he cleared the ring, especially giving Big Hurt a sitdown powerbomb, BD and Tommy stared each other down for a few seconds as the crowd started to chant "ONE MORE MATCH", but they shook hands as the chant became "THANK YOU TOMMY".

By this point, I was exhausted -- and there was still the Main Event to go!

The MCW Tag Team Champions -- the Broski Express -- had a strong task ahead of them: defending their belts against the Number One Contenders -- the Young Studs -- and they'd have to do so the same way they won them: in a Ladder match. As I've always said, when it comes to Ladder matches, especially when titles are involved, you're not going to see much in the line of technical wrestling at all. There's only sheer violence and brutality, blood flowing freely, and various ways to use ladders besides for climbing. All of this was in full effect this night, and it would come down to one simple question: who wanted the title more? That would be a question that wouldn't be answered, as out of the blue, Eric Ryan would betray his tag team partner by dropping him off the ladder with a Death Valley Driver to the mat and leaving the ring. The Broskis would then easily recover their belts and retain the title.

Never let it be said that MCW shows don't live up to their titles -- this truly was a September To Remember, at least for me.

Until next time, I am, as always, The Reverend Rogue Six, and I'll see you at ringside!
